das neue The Bat! ist da! - der wohl beste mailer fuer windows. version 1.60 beschert jubel, trubel, heiterkeit; finden doch nun auch die wenigen wirklich noch benoetigten dinge einzug in thebat. aus dem changelog:

[+] It is now possible to create folders "outside" accounts
[*] Handling of folders with big number of messages should be faster and need less memory
nicht dass letzteres jemals langsam wirklich gewesen waere :) zu bekommen an der ueblichen stelle. update: das ding ladet jetzt unglaublich schnell. arghl - unbeschreiblich.
im The Register interview mit Benoit Schillings and [create Dominic Giampaolo] vom 30. maerz finden sich perlen.

And there's so much data we receive there's no way we can organize the data, it takes too much time.
flat spaces vs hierarchies - there you are :) vanilla verfolgt ganz klar und fuer jeden sichtbar das konzept des flachen spaces. darueber werden dann dynamische views gelegt. tada, there you go ;)
die obigen aussagen sind vielleicht ein wenig aus dem kontext gerissen, so read the whole thing! (it's well wort it)

Das interview hab ich schon vor einiger Zeit gelesen. - Ist aber wirklich genial. Schade nur, dass wir so ein gscheites OS mit so einem FS wohl nie wieder bekommen werden :-(

It's got to be appropriate for the things that you do. Benoit is right about B-Trees, really, in that they're a stupid data structure for most cases, because 99 per cent of the time when you do a Find, you do a case insensitive substring match aand a B-Tree is useless for that type of query
Oh so ein schoenes Interview, denn es geht weiter:
Benoit : I see that in the industry. For a thousand records, they use an SQL database. So basically they pay Oracle to put the data in the RAM cache for them.
Dominic: That's pretty funny.
Zu Be: Verbrecherfirma, viel zu schnell die Hardware eingestellt :-) Nun habe ich seit 6 Jahren ne sauteure Bebox sinnlos rumstehen +G+

Du hast recht. - der teil ueber die thousand-records-with-oracle-database ist genial.
Aber fuer sowas gibts ja postgresql, nicht? :-)

fuer sowas sollte es simple in memory DBs geben :-) Oder einfach was ohne SQL fuer direktes ORDBMS, Aruna unter Ruby z.B.

in 90% der faelle brauch ich da gar kein dbms ;) vanilla arbeitet auch einfach uebers fs - das macht dann schon caching (also das "ins ram stellen").
im uebrigen ist das zitat schwer genial, aber ich wollt nicht gleich den ganzen artikel zitieren ;)
