you know a whole industry has abysmally failed when: you can't get a legally-owned dvd to play and have to download a copy from the net instead.

the same applies to games: thanks to the protection system [create starforce] that was used by a lot of publishers (e.g. jowood) this happened to me more than once. while i felt entitled to get a copy from the net if the legally owned version wouldn't work, i still don't feel comfortable with this way of distribution (pay at the store, fail at installing, then grab a copy from the net; tedious!).

at least it's better now, thanks to the publishers dropping starfox and relying on online registration for the multiplayer experience.
