In his 1965 article "A Machine-Oriented Logic Based on the Resolution Principle" John Alan Robinson laid an important foundation for a whole branch of automated deduction systems. The original Prolog is essentially a refined automated theorem prover based on Robinson's resolution.See also: Resolution, Unification
