monday this week, the strange naming game surrounding the Phoenix browser finally came to an end. Phoenix is now Firebird, it seems that the RDBMS with the same name is no problem for the Phoenix development team; and further it seems that they have trademarked the name already. on the other side, the FirebirdSQL team "strongly opposes" the new name for the browser - read more at their homepage.

at least phoenix's/firebird's development seems to progress at a reasonable rate, hopefully 0.6 will be around soon.

[create Bob McWirther]'s thoughts about the value of IT investments: "I know what kinds of problems I enjoy working on, and they tend to be computational problems. I don't find excitement in typical data-management problems whose main concern is the collection, storage and display of data."
