The recently published RFC 3875 is an informational memo about CGI/1.1, the sections 8 "Implementation" and 9 "Security Considerations" contain interesting points like: "If the script does not intend processing the PATH_INFO data, then it should reject the request with 404 Not Found if PATH_INFO is not NULL."
