Some cold boot timings (mainly for future reference) of a Thinkpad T61p 8889-ALG w/2x2.6GHz, 4GB RAM, 200GB 7200rpm HDD.
Ubuntu 9.04 (64-bit Kernel 2.6.28-15, X.Org 7.4, Gnome 2.20):
- 31 seconds from GRUB to gdm
- 15 seconds from gdm to desktop w/o hourglass cursor
Windows 7 64-bit, Build 7100 (Eval):
- 32 seconds from GRUB to login screen
- 7 seconds from login screen to desktop w/o hourglass
More timings using an 80GB Intel X25-M G2 "Postville" SSD.
Ubuntu 9.04 w/SSD (same system as above):
- 21 seconds from GRUB to gdm
- 4 seconds from gdm to desktop w/o hourglass
Ubuntu 9.10 alpha 5 w/SSD (64-bit Kernel 2.6.31-9, X.Org 7.4, Gnome 2.27):
- 13 seconds from GRUB to gdm
- 4 seconds from gdm to desktop w/o hourglass
