I'm not even defending Microsoft, I'm just saying that big handwavy generalizations made from a position of deep ignorance is one of the biggest wastes of time on the net today."

not exactly a new article by Joel Spolsky (dating dec 11, 2002) it is still an interesting one, elaborating on the concept of "worlds" in software development. a world being a complex heap of interrelated technologies and knowledge - like win32 or j2ee. and it makes one wondering what the world is/the worlds are, one self is proficient in.
