Dynamic Selection of Application-Specific Garbage Collectors by Soman, Krintz, Bacon (2004): "The performance of [garbage] collection systems is largely dependent upon application execution behavior [..]. The overhead introduced by selection of the 'wrong' GC system can be significant. To overcome these limitations, we have developed a framework that can automatically switch between GC systems without having to restart and possibly rebuild the execution environment [..]." - absolutely hilarious!
