Jive Software's "Jive Messenger" is now called Wildfire Server but not only that, it's also 33% faster. And in the best spirit of true open source, Gaston Dombiak and Matt Tucker have written a nice article on their optimization efforts, complete with links to source diffs that show what they did to achieve that speedup. Wildfire is certainly the most hassle-free Jabber/XMPP server I've come across so far.
