Phil Gregory: Life in Text Mode (2004-08-04) [via rist@] - mentions some very good tools, be sure to also read his ode to screen. yes, screen is certainly one absolutely indispensible tool and gregory's screenrc contains some nice gems, like shift+pgdn/pgup mapped to screen's scrollback buffer. some further stirring around his site finally got me around giving ion a try as window manager and i like what i saw, so far. next up: finding a way to keep sanity with all those (at the moment quite different) shortcuts used for managing very similar things: multiple buffers in vim, multiple windows in irssi, multiple tabs in firefox, multiple screens in screen and multiple screens/frames/workspaces/displays in ion (etc etc).
