REST debatte: Ich stelle mir schon lange die Frage nach dem Sinn von SOAP. Unsere Anwendung kann REST seit jahren (irgendwie :-) ohne es zu wissen, alle Servlets antworten erstmal mit XML auf HTML get und post. Wo der SOAP Gewinn ist, war mir nicht klar. Ich bin gluecklich dass es andere nun auch so sehen (obwohl ich SOAP nehme ;) Und kann man WDSL nicht ersetzten durch automatisch schema->object generatoren (in java gibt es einige XML->Java Bindings wie castor oder jaxb). Dann kann auch meine IDE das was Joel so toll an WDSL findet (completion). hu. Alles immer das gleiche, irgendwie.

zu REST selbst empfehle ich die diss von Roy Fielding zu lesen. so lange ich die nicht selbst fertig gelesen hab, moecht ich zur REST vs. SOAP debatte direkt nix sagen. ausser dass ich URI's fuer sehr sinnvoll halte.
SOAP hat schon so seine berechtigung. vor allem dann, wenn mal eingesehen wird, dass das section 5 encoding halt doch nur optional ist, kanns ganz interessant sein (ein kleiner layer mehr halt).
aber zur "immer das gleiche" aussage, kann ich nur zustimmen ...
